Accidents and serious injury or illness can affect your pet at anytime. Medical costs can be expensive. We often forget the real cost of medical care for ourselves because it is subsidised by Medicare or Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. This is not so for our pets. Even basic veterinary treatments can be expensive, not to mention intensive care, modern diagnostic and imaging techniques and specialists.

It is difficult if we have to choose care for our pets based on financial constraints.

Health Insurance for your pet may save some of the worry and assist with the costs of the best veterinary care. Many companies today offer pet insurance schemes with varying levels of cover; some even including contributions toward routine health care items. Your vet, home insurance company, Yellow Pages, and internet are all good starting points for brochures and information.

Remember, a good preventative health care program can go a long way in preventing certain diseases and problems. Ask your vet what preventative measures such as vaccinations, special diets, supplements, parasite prevention, geriatric monitoring and health screens will help your pet to stay healthy. But, consider pet health insurance: it’s nice to know you have financial cover should an unexpected accident or illness present itself.
